Alisha Redmond (b.1991) is an Australian composer and pianist whose music has been described as ‘exquisite’ (Robert Davidson, 2021). Her compositional work often focuses on aspects of the natural world, inspired by the lush surrounding bushland of West Gippsland, Victoria where she resides. Alisha has composed for concert hall, stage, and screen, with a strong focus on collaboration with artists and performers.
This year saw the premiere of two works at the Orange Regional Conservatorium: ‘komorebi’ commissioned by cellist Stephanie Li and guitarist Jeffrey Cheah, premiered in September 2024, and 'Colliding' for solo cello and string orchestra, commissioned by acclaimed cellist James Larsen and premiered with the string ensembles of the Orange Regional Conservatorium in April 2024.
Both a seasoned educator and composer, Alisha is passionate about connecting with emerging musicians in regional communities. In 2023 she was commissioned to write new works for John Noble's regional Victorian string chamber music program Itet, and for St Paul's Anglican Grammar School of Warragul's Academy of Music, where she is currently Composer in Residence.
In 2022 Alisha was selected for contemporary art music ensemble Halcyon’s First Stones Composer Development program. Her work ‘a dance with a jelly-fish’ composed for mezzo-soprano and cello was specifically chosen from the program by Halcyon to be premiered in their recital ‘After Dark’ in September 2022, and was performed again in their 25th anniversary concert ‘The Dance of Life’ in October 2023.
